To begin, I'll discuss banning noisy, dangerous gas yard tools. The first topic is gas leaf blowers. Let's talk about the real reason we still have these noxious tools in California. 

Gas leaf blowers provide convenience for wealthy property owners. They get nice-looking yards, and the service is cheap. Banning gas leaf blowers would inconvenience them. Their $50 yard service might cost $55 after a ban, and they complain loudly about that. In general, they get their way. 

Gas leaf blowers provide convenience for businesses. If we ban gas leaf blowers, businesses would have to work more efficiently. They would have to buy new tools. They would have to stop buying expensive gasoline and two-stroke oil. They would have to charge batteries. That is inconvenient for them. They complain loudly about that. In general, they get their way. 

That convenience comes at a terrible cost. We have clouds of carbon monoxide and carcinogens over our neighborhoods. The extreme noise can cause cardiovascular disease and other non-hearing related illnesses. 

The rest of us bear the cost of convenience. Our time is considered worthless. Our health is considered worthless. 

We should be furious about that.
